The little Blue Planet

The little Blue Planet was commissioned by the JSW foundation as a part of their collaboration with the Climate Change Project. The show looks at the phenomena of rapid climate change in the world today caused by irresponsible human exploitation of natural resources which causes extreme weather changes, flood and droughts displacing millions around the world.The show has no spoken words and was created for mainly children and families. It premiered at the Little Theatre at NCPA Mumbai.

 

SYNOPSIS

The show begins with a glimpse at the creation of the universe and the creation of a little blue planet, a unique planet because it has creates life, the planet called Earth who in our play becomes a character called “Earthu”.

Earthu then creates “life” with his little hands, plants, flowers, butterflies and then a whole forest, fishes and birds. Finally he creates a“Human” and nurtures him but he grows greedy, cuts down the forests, sets up factories, concrete jungles, creates cars which pollute the environment . The little Blue planet begins to suffocate and fall sick and suddenly he is not a little boy any more but a sick and feeble old man.

Now its all in the hands of the humans to save or destroy the little blue planet.

 

Performances

  1. The little Blue planet opened at the Little Theatre at NCPA , Mumbai in October 2008.
  2. In 2009 it has performed at the popular Kala Ghora Festival for over 3000 people and at the primary and middle classes at the Dhirubhai Ambani School in Mumbai.
  3. It has also been performed at the Ishara Internationsl Puppet Theatre Festival held at the India Habitat Centre in January.
  4. In March it was presented at the Putul Yatra 2009,JAipur, festival of puppets organized by the Sangeet Natak Akademi .
