LONG TERM TRAININGS
One of the most important reasons for the existence of the Katkatha Puppet Arts Trust is that it aims to expand puppetry through trainings. These are not just one time short expenses but long term sustained training that will create professional puppeteers. We realize that it is premature to start a puppet school but that is our ultimate dream and goal.

WHO CAN APPLY?
Katkatha will accept 4 or less apprentices for a minimum period of 2 months. The program can be applied to by any interested individual. Previous experience in puppet theatre is non essential. However, any previous experience of puppetry, theatre, music, craft and working in the field of education or communication will be seen as an advantage. The minimum age of an apprentice needs to be 18 years and above with a basic ability to read and write. No formal degrees are necessary. All applicants will have to fill up an application form and short-listed candidates will have to appear for an audition.
WHAT DOES THE PROGRAM ENTAIL?
This program intends to provide
- Training in Puppet Making through puppet making classes and hands on work within selected Katkatha projects
- Training in manipulating puppets, script writing, making story boards and designing puppets
- Understanding the functioning of a puppet theatre company, the Behind the scenes of creating productions and presenting public shows
- History of puppet theatre and theory of puppet theatre as written about by academics from around the world.
For completing the course, the apprentice will have to attend all the daily classes in a week. There will be lectures and hands-on work, master classes by puppet experts, group work and solo work. By the end of the three months each apprentice will have one self created performance.
PROGRAM FEE- Rs 8,000 a month. This includes tuition fees, material fees, food and refreshments during classes and all arrangement for the final performance. For special cases up to 2 full scholarships are available.

INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

WHAT IS AN INTERNSHIP? An intern follows the work of Katkatha Puppet Arts Trust through its projects, performances, rehearsals and other activities. An intern contributes to this process by attaching himself or herself to these projects at any capacity. This can be by following a production from beginning to end as an assistant in the production work, or following a community based project form beginning to end. These roles can be mutually agreed on in advance. An intern can also follow their own project guided by Katkatha. This includes creating a show, learning to make puppets and undertaking research.
HOW TO APPLY?
All applicants need to send their Work Profile, a Proposal and a Statement of Purpose (not more than 500 words) to Katkatha .The Trustees will review the same and shortlisted candidate will be notified on selection of their proposal.
WHO CAN APPLY?
Interns can be of any nationality and can be from any background. They need to have at least some of the same goals and philosophy of Katkatha. Katkatha accepts only one intern at a time. Inters are not paid. However all short term (less than 6 month) interns need to pay a small fee to Katkatha. The fee will vary from case to case depending on the scope of their internship and level of expertise. Katkatha will be happy to assist any candidate in any way possible in applying for scholarships to support their internship with Katkatha. Interns are also responsible for their travel and living arrangements in Delhi.The Katkatha studio also has a room available but the intern needs to pay a small rent for the same.If the intern travels with Katkatha on a project as a collaborator, Katkatha will bear all costs of travel and living costs. The interns will also have access to the Katkatha studio space. Katkatha will also be happy to guide the intern with finding a place to stay in the city, the other puppet resources in the city and with any other aspect of their stay and travel. All interns will receive a Katkatha certificate with a detailed report of the internship at the end of the period. Katkatha can provide support to interns who are from a financially disadvantaged backgroun.
PERIOD OF INTERSHIP?
The time period of the internship, the number of days, weeks or months and the amount of time spent in Katkatha by the intern can be decided mutually between Katkatha and the intern but must be mentioned in the proposal.
